This book was written as a means of helping to liberate people from the fears that enslave them, that cripple them psychologically and spiritually.
Everyone at one time or another feels fear, guilt, shame, anxiety and the like. But when these things get out of hand they can literally take over a person's life.
The author suggests that a way to transcend fear is through re-encountering the teachings of Jesus, as illustrated in His parables. To make his points, the author cites and interprets the parables of the Prodigal Son, the Good Samaritan, the Widow and the Judge and others.
"I believe that if we listen to the voice of Jesus speak to us through (the parables) we will find that Jesus can truly become our liberator in a very tangible and personal way. This freedom can be ours if we open our minds and hearts to His teachings and be willing to take the practical steps necessary to accomplish it," the author writes.
These steps include making time for solitude and prayer; finding an appropriate psychological counselor or spiritual director; and performing tangible works of compassion toward our less fortunate neighbors.
In addition to his sound advice, the author provides exercises at the end of each chapter to help the reader internalize the book's profound and healing wisdom.
